Towering of the skyline of Birmingham, perched atop Red Mountain stands Vulcan. The statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, was created as the city of Birmingham's entry in the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the largest cast iron statue in the world. To this day he watches over Birmingham--a city built on ironworks and steel.
