I like to put local places in my stories. It is a nice shout out to towns where I set scenes. I think it also helps readers who may be familiar with the landmarks to see the scene in their minds as they read the words on the page.
Chex Fonfon is a popular Birmingham restaurant located in the Five Points area downtown. In THE HOUSE OF DUQUESNE two of my characters, Nacaria Blanchard and her friend Blackie D'Angelo meet for lunch to catch up on the changes in each others' lives. Of course, Blackie lives in the city of Birmingham not far from the restaurant. Nacaria lives in Charleston, South Carolina. However, this was not a difficult commute for her, being that her husband has the power to zap her to any location in the world in a matter of seconds.
